Days 6 & 7 - 6&7 January 2015

Hello!

6 January:
I had a mole excision from my face on Tuesday. I'm a big sook and didn't like the anaesthetic. It was almost as bad as the dentist, lol!
No art this day. I did have a marathon session making cards, though. :-)

7 January:
The prompt was "currently reading". A few weeks back I found a pile of books by my Mum's front door that was destined for the church charity sale. I picked through and brought some on a detour via my place. They will still end up at the church, once I've read them. ;-). I've been reading on my Kindle. It's funny reading real books again.
I thought I was out of time for art, but just before bedtime I was struck by inspiration. This is drawn using Pitt pens. It's on an A4 page.
I love this style and want to explore it further.

See you soon!

Some from July - beach, pasta, me

Hello!

I'll go back into the archives of July again, but here are a few to start.

Brisbane City, Adelaide Street on a foggy morning.
Me. Self Portrait.
The Beach with my little girl.
 Our shadows on the beach.
My little girl again, chasing waves.
And some pasta making - I made a batch of pasta with the kids. We had so much pasta that we made ravioli, then lasagne, and then fettuccini to finish it off!

 Coco the Spoodle.
And the last photo for this post, my eldest daughter's floor when she arrived home from holidays with a friend.

See you again soon!

Days 156 - 158, 4 - 6 June 2012

Hello!

Day 156, 4 June 2012 - Close Up
I looked and looked and looked, but with a very busy day at work, it came down to almost the last thing I did before the end of the day - driving my daughter home from swim squad. A close up of my speedometer.

Day 157, 5 June 2012 - Sign
I like this photo a bit better. The sign at my train station. I liked the orange against the blue sky. :-)

Day 158, 6 June 2012 - Hat
I meant to take a photo of myself in a groovy beanie that my aunty made. But I went to work without it, and the only hat I had available was one of the safety hats. Tres chic!
Yes, sometimes I'm silly.

Days 136 - 138, 15 - 17 May 2012: Love, Book, Snack

Hello!

Day 136, 15 May 2012 - Love
I met my husband 19 years ago. We became friends. Then we started dating. Then we moved in together. Then we got married. Then we had kids. Our love continues to grow.

Day 137, 16 May 2012 - What I am reading
The Time Traveler's Wife is a great read. It is taking some concentration, though. I keep getting a little lost and having to read back to see where I am up to!
What I like about this photo is that it was taken on my lap, sitting at the train station. I really like how it turned out. :-)

Day 138, 17 May 2012 - Snack
I don't really snack, so this was a challenging photo to find. I decided at the end of the day to have a hot milo before bed, and added a few sneaky marshmallows, and I remembered to take a photo.

Day 127 - 6 May 2012

Hello!

The theme for today is You, that is ME. :-)  Lucky you, you get to see another photo of me...
I think I'm getting better at self-portraits on the iPhone, what do you think?

On 6 May we were blessed with a beautiful, subtle sunset, which I will also share. I was walking the kids and the dog down at the park when the sky went a beautiful pink. I boosted the colours slightly, but this is pretty much what it looked like.

I love that the orange and pink merged into the deep dark blue of the evening sky.

Day 124 - 3 May 2012

Hello,

The Photo A Day theme for 3 May was Something I wore. I had ideas of taking photos of piles of clothes, or telling a little white lie and finding something glamorous to photograph... but the reality was that I spent the day racing around after my kids in my blue jeans. :-)
I also took a photo of our strange sunset. There was a little patch of blue in the distance. The clouds were really interesting to watch.

Day 100 - 9 April 2012 - Younger Me

Hello!

Day 100!!! 100 days of blogging my photos each day, and I've missed so few! And I know I've blogged more than 100 photos, because I have a hard time choosing photos each day so I share too many. :-)

You can join me ANYtime you feel like it. This is fun!

April is turning out to be my iPhone photo month, using Instagram (my new toy).  9 April was a wonderful day, Easter Monday.  The April Photo a Day theme was  Younger You. I photographed an old photo of me.
I love this photo. I was about 4 years old. We were living in Nauru. I had just had my bath. There is a matching photo of my brother, which has to be one of my very favourites of him as a little boy also.  We were sitting in these groovy little chairs. I was happy. :-)

This photo makes me realise that my little girl has lots of similarities to me. Here are a couple of photos taken down at the park at the end of our lovely Easter week-end. She's 4.
Those are orange tights, her legs haven't gone orange, LOL!
We went to the dog park so that my little girl could say hello to the dogs. The irony is that to get my dog to go into the dog off-leash area, I have to put her on the leash (and drag her in). Defeats the purpose of the off-leash area really... she was hiding under my feet the whole time we were there. All the other dogs came over to say hello, but she wouldn't come out.  The funny thing is, outside of the dog off-leash area, she will play with any other dog that comes along. It is just that one place where she refuses to be social. I have a crazy dog.

Day 96 - 5 April 2012 - Tiny, and a bit of Brisbane

Hello!

Day 96 was a busy day for us. We WERE going to go to GoMA - the Gallery of Modern Art, but for some (insane) reason, the gallery decided to refurbish the children's section during the school holidays. So we went to the Science Centre instead. That is the beauty of Brisbane's Southbank - if one thing is closed, there are heaps of other things to do. In the one section there is GoMA, the Qld Art Gallery, the Qld Museum, the Science Centre, the Qld State Library, the Qld Performing Arts Centre, the Brisbane Convention Centre, not to mention the Southbank gardens themselves. And for the grown-ups - lots of cafes and restaurants and shops. :-)

Just a couple of shots for you today. I'll be going back to get more. This first one is the view from the front entrance to GoMA, looking back towards Brisbane City across the river.
Then there is this piece of "art" when you look back the other direction.
Brizvegas is what lots of people call Brisbane. The name has been around forever, perhaps 20 years, but I'm not really sure where it came from.

This next photo is taken from the bus stop, again looking towards the City.
One of the things my littlest girl asked to do during the holidays was to take a bus. So we took the bus to South Brisbane for our outing. It was actually quite quick and the girls had giant smiles on their faces the whole way - both going in and heading back out again.

For the Photo a Day April challenge, the theme for Day 5 was Tiny. I didn't find anything tiny while we were out, so my eldest daughter brought our her tiny fairy for me to photograph when we got home.
After our big morning out, we came home and us three girls had our hair cut. Our hairdresser comes to us, and she's brilliant! So my last photo is a self-portrait of my newly sleek hair after its cut.
The photo was taken in the dark by the light of the computer monitor... I'm sure you get the idea of what it looks like, LOL!

Day 92 - 1 April 2012 - My Reflection

Hello!

Day 92 sees me starting the April Photo A Day challenge. The first subject is My Reflection.
I sat on the bathroom bench and took a self-portrait with my iPhone.

Did you want to join me in the April challenge? Here is the list, you just need to tag your photos with #photoadayApril, wherever you put them (Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc).

I did more playing with Instagram today. I was making Lamingtons with the kids. Actually, we used bought sponge cake, so we "assembled" lamingtons rather than made them, LOL!
I used the old Tupperware beetroot keeper to dunk the cake in the chocolate mix.
The kids did the rolling in the coconut.

They were happy. I was happy we didn't make too much mess.

Day 91 - 31 March 2012 - Instagram

Hello!

On Day 91 I discovered Instagram. I was investigating the April Photo A Day challenge and the instructions spoke about using Instagram. I've been curious for a while, so I took the plunge.

My first Instagram photo was this:
I used the subject that was in front of me - my glass of sparkling sauvignon blanc sitting on my kitchen bench. I liked the result.

My second attempt was a self-portrait.
I needed a profile picture after all, LOL!

Day 53 - 22 February 2012

Hello!

I reached the end of the day, and I hadn't taken my photo. I HAD found my long-lost tripod, flash, and remote trigger, yay! So I tested them all and took a couple of bad self-portraits. Bad because they capture me all sweaty with no make-up and decidedly daggy at the very end of the day. It's definitely me, just not terribly glamourous, LOL!
After I took the first one, I thought I ought to at least take my hair out of its falling-out pony tail. :-)
My plan WAS to take my "night" theme photo for the week, but the night sky (which was to be my subject) was full of cloud with not a star in sight. Murphy's Law - I find my tripod, and I can't see the stars. Maybe tomorrow...

Day 15 - 15 January 2012, a little SPARKLE

Hello!

This week's theme at Photo Friday Challenge is "Sparkle". I have spent the last couple of days thinking about Sparkle.

Yesterday I was going to take my camera to my daughter's swim squad session and capture the sparkling water while the kids swam their thousands of laps, but I forgot my camera, oops! That's how you ended up seeing my dinner yesterday instead. :-)

Today I decided it was the day to capture Sparkle. And it is raining. Not much light. Not much sparkling happening around here. LOL!

I decided that Sparkle for me brought up images of diamonds. Now, I don't own as many diamonds as I would like to, but I do have three in my engagement ring.  Much like a self-portrait, taking a portrait of your hand is quite a tricky task! I took my hand all over the house, wiggled it around in the light, and had a very challenging time trying to get that ring to actually SPARKLE.  I even cleaned it!

This photo is the result of my hand's photographic session:
Trust me, they do sparkle, and I love these rings. We haven't been apart since my husband gave them to me. They stay glued to my fingers day-in, day-out, every single day.

Day 6 - 6 January 2012 - Self Portrait

Hello!

Until this afternoon, I had a photograph of my washing line filled with the rainbow laundry of my two girls planned for Day 6. Then I saw Lori's post for Day 5, and thought perhaps I would try a self-portrait instead.  My rainbow laundry can wait for another day, LOL!

I didn't realise how tricky a self portrait would be with an SLR. I'd forgotten that the auto-focus required my eye to be behind the viewfinder (the focus points are decided based on what I'm looking at). So I manual focused on my knee at a distance that I thought my face would be from the lens, turned the camera around, and took the photo in manual focus. Actually I took about 15 photos. No make-up, hair straight from an afternoon swim, this photo definitely needed some "special" treatment.

Here it is:
I'm going to play around with colour a bit more this year. This was fun.

:-)
Michelle

Edited to add: I just found another photo challenge which I would like to take part in. It is Photo Friday Challenge by Carly. By luck, my Friday photo was a self-portrait. :-)
