Day 116 - 25 April 2012 - Lest we forget

Hello!

Today in Australia and New Zealand it is ANZAC Day. It is a day where we all stop to remember those who have served and died in wars to protect us and our way of life. I think ANZAC Day is probably our biggest national holiday, maybe even bigger than (or maybe equal to) Australia Day.

If you want to learn some more about ANZAC Day, the Australian War Memorial site is a good place to start.
This morning I took my girls, and the dog, for a walk down to our community ANZAC Day ceremony. All of the local ex-servicemen and women, the local schools, scouts and guides, CWAs (country womens' associations), Rotary club, etc. all marched down the hill towards our local cenotaph, which sits in the shopping centre carpark (thankfully emptied of cars today). There were two marching bands - one at the front of the march, and one bringing up the rear. I think most of our community were either marching, or supporting from the sidelines. As always, the speakers had me all choked up with emotion.

Lest we forget.

Michelle
